GAME DRIVES
On safari, game drives are usually carried out in the early morning and late afternoon, when most of the animals are active. As you head out at dawn in your safari vehicle, you will have the chance to explore the different habitats in search of the fabulous resident wildlife, and in the evening, immerse yourself in the colours of the glow of the Golden Hour, and the breath-taking African sunsets, before returning to your lodge or camp.
Inside the wildlife conservancies, night game drives are offered, where you can feel the thrill of exploring the bush at night, and may come across animals such as leopards, lions, springhares, and birds such as owls and night jars.
Our private safaris permit you to spend as much time as you like out on a game drive, and our safari vehicles have roof hatches to allow for better game viewing. Some lodges and camps offer game drives in open vehicles, providing for almost uninterrupted views.

SAND, SEA, SWIM
BEACH HOLIDAYS
Endless stretches of fine white sand fringed by palm trees, and amazing and beautiful underwater coral gardens are the perfect ingredients for a beach holiday at the Indian Ocean coast or on one of the several islands and atolls scattered close to the coastline. There is a wide selection of hotels and resorts, ranging from luxurious hotels and all-inclusive resorts, gorgeous villas and private houses to ‘barefoot luxury’ private islands.
Some beaches are protected nesting grounds for the endangered Green Turtles that migrate for thousands of kilometres across the vast oceans before returning to East Africa’s beaches to nest. Dhow trips and sunset cruises are a lovely way to experience the sea in a traditional boat, and overnight trips are possible on private Dhow charters.
Snorkelling is fun and can be enjoyed by everyone. The snorkelling sites all over the coast of Kenya and Tanzania are filled with coral reefs and colourful marine life, many being found close to the surface. Inland, snorkelling can be enjoyed in the pristine waters of Lake Tanganyika, home to several species of endemic Cichlid fish. Scuba diving lessons and trips are readily available for beginners, while deeper sites attract experienced divers who are confident with strong currents. Hundreds of species of fish, rays, and dolphins and beautiful whales, sharks, and whale sharks can be spotted! Every property at the coast has access to a Dive Centre where a fun array of water sports can be arranged.

PEOPLE AND CULTURE
If you would like some insight into the local cultures and lifestyles, visits to cultural traditional villages can easily be included during your safari. Or even better, pick a stay at a community owned lodge or ranch to appreciate the development and projects carried out by the local communities to sustain and develop their livelihoods and conservation.
During your visits, you could assist the local people by buying arts and crafts, or visit a local school where a donation of schoolbooks and writing material would be a generous and invaluable donation. Investing in their livelihood and welfare goes a long way in improving the life of the community.
Archaeological sites are of special interest and can be visited as part of your safari or by a special helicopter flight to the more remote areas such as Koobi Fora, near Lake Turkana in Kenya. Tanzania’s Olduvai Gorge and Laetoli are a treasure trove of relics of our origins.
The culture, cuisine, arts and songs of the Swahili Coast preserve the influence of its Arab associations, having being under the Omani Sultanate rule in the distant past. All over the region, it is still possible to find and learn about historical monuments and sites.

SOAR LIKE A BIRD
HOT AIR BALLOONING
Taking off at dawn, embrace the surreal experience of floating above the plains as the balloon rises up and away, greeted by the first rays of the rising sun.
No other experience can compare to the feeling of watching the landscape unfold beneath you, offering stunning vistas and the chance to watch the animals from a bird’s eye view.
Guided mainly by the wind, you silently float over the land for about an hour. The experienced pilots use the gas burners mainly to raise the balloon off the ground, and to correct its course and height occasionally, during the flight.
The captivating experience ends as you land in the middle of the plains and celebrate with a Champagne Bush Breakfast, before returning to your lodge or camp.
MEET THE GREAT APES
PRIMATE TRACKING
A wonderful add-on to a wildlife safari would be a thrilling trek through the forests of Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania, in search of Common Chimpanzees and Mountain Gorillas. Chimpanzees can be found in Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania, and the gorillas in Rwanda and Uganda.
The experiences of hiking through the dense forests of Bwindi and Nyungwe are adventures in themselves; often strenuous, and while this may take several hours on some occasions, the thrill and excitement of coming face to face with our closest living relatives in the animal world are worth the effort!
Generally, the chimps are more active and energetic, often moving around quite a bit during the time you would spend with them, whereas the gorillas, again generally, are more sedentary and easier to observe. The young ones though, are all little balls of energy and endless antics, and are such a delight to watch!
TOUCH THE EARTH
WALKING
Nature walks are possible at almost every camp or lodge, and are great for stretching your legs after your morning game drive. Forest walks are great for seeing birds, butterflies and to appreciate the natural beauty of the indigenous forests. Naturalists accompany you as you see, touch and taste the plants and learn about their traditional uses. Learn about animal tracks, insects, rocks, watch the birds, and with luck, approach plains game such as antelopes and zebras and giraffes. This is especially interesting for children, who may not be old enough to experience bush walks.
Bush walks are carried out in the open savannah and bush land, and may be accompanied by armed park guides. You would get the nature walk experience with the added bonus of the possibility to observe elephants and buffalo. Trail blazing through the dense forests in Rwanda on the Congo-Nile Trail is exciting and a great adventure, and bush walks and multiple day walking safaris in big game country accompanied by experienced guides are especially recommended in Kenya and Tanzania.
Conquering the summits of the snow-capped peaks of East Africa’s mountains is a challenge many find alluring.
Popular mountain treks include Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, and the tallest freestanding mountain in the world (5895m above sea level); Ol Doinyo Lengai (2962m) in northern Tanzania; Mt. Kenya trekkers aim for the third highest peak, Point Lenana (4979m); Mt. Margerita (5109m), in on Uganda’s legendary Rwenzori Mountains, described by Ptolemy as the ‘Mountains of the Moon’, and in Rwanda, overnight treks up Mt. Karisimbi (4507m) can be arranged for you, as can full-day or half-day hikes up Mt. Bisoke (3700m) and Mt. Mgahinga (3400m).

HORSE RIDING ON SAFARI
Imagine yourself riding across the endless African plains, or cantering close to giraffes and zebras and antelopes, and for the more experienced riders, watching elephants and lions from this unique perspective, so different from being in a safari vehicle or even on a walking safari.
This experience can be a gentle excursion, a slow canter around an area that is safe for beginners and children, to multiple-day safaris with overnight authentic bush camping covering open country, more challenging terrains and wildlife encounters, and a whole lot of adventure for the experienced, advanced riders.
