Tano Safaris is a select tour operator, specializing in crafting and arranging private safaris and holidays in handpicked destinations within East Africa.
We’re locally-owned and managed, and we take pride in our in-depth knowledge of this spectacular corner of Africa, backed by over two decades of our own personal experience and exploration of most of the areas that we showcase.
Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda, encompass most of Africa’s most spectacular wildlife viewing areas, cultural heritages and landscapes. Nowhere else in the world can you connect so deeply with nature, with people, and most importantly, with yourself, than in East Africa…

ABOUT OUR FOUNDER
Proudly Kenyan, and born to a scientist and a wildlife veterinarian, Elvira spent a good part of her childhood travelling around the country, in the back of an old, rickety Landrover, visiting the then remote areas of Kenya in the company of her family. Combining a love and respect for the people and nature around her, and for the beautiful country she grew up in with a deep passion of understanding the natural world around her, she is constantly seeking ways to share its treasure-trove of unique experiences with others.
It’s no surprise that she picked a career in tourism, and by her late twenties, had not only gained invaluable experience in guiding throughout East and Southern Africa (and being the first black Kenyan woman to attain the Silver Level KPSGA guiding certification), but had also worked in ground operations and in the sales and marketing departments of a couple of local tour companies. These provided her with an invaluable and well-rounded set of skills that encouraged her to venture into setting up her own company- Tano Safaris.
With a fully hands-on approach, she is happily involved in every aspect of a clients’ travel plans- from the initial contact, providing personal recommendations for the safari, to handling the logistics behind the scenes, and in keeping in touch with the clients throughout their visit. She obtains great pride and satisfaction from her work, especially when our clients recommend our services to their friends and families, or even return for repeat visits with us!

# THE MEANING BEHIND OUR NAME
Tano, meaning five in Swahili, embraces the Five Senses, and our safaris are designed to let you engage all of your senses while you explore and indulge in the vivid colours and sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and the feel of the countries we offer our services in: Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda. You will be warmly welcomed to our home, to our land; we feel privileged to be able to introduce you to our cultures, to showcase the highlights of the natural world, and to let you experience the warm embrace of East Africa for yourselves.

# POSITIVE IMPACTS
Conservation and sustainability are important to all of us, and our approach is to begin with the local communities we engage with. We prefer to work with community-run conservancies, which partner with these communities, making them direct stakeholders in the business, as well as the ever-increasing number of diverse camps and lodges that are involved in the betterment of the daily lives, and futures, of the members of the community, as well as that of the natural environment and wildlife.
The contents of the welcome pack we give to each of our clients when they arrive, are mainly produced by the hands of small enterprises where possible. Each one of our driver-guides and staff is involved in or helps out community projects, charity organisations, because we appreciate that we’re all in this together.
# WE VALUE YOUR TRUST
TANO Safaris Ltd. is a fully licensed and registered company, and is a fully bonded member of the Kenya Association of Tour Operators. We are subscribed to the Kenya Tourism Federation’s emergency communication center, and temporary membership of the Flying Doctors medical emergency evacuation is a service we include for all our clients. We are at hand 24hrs of the day, providing for easy contact with you, and with our travel partners.
TANO Safaris strives to deliver the best possible safari experience to our valued clients and Elvira oversees all safari arrangements in each of the countries in which we operate. A hands-on and ethical approach, with a lot of personal touches, is what makes us the preferred safari company.
