The flights to and from Mahale are based on shared, scheduled charter flights. They only operate on Mondays and Thursdays. This means that unless a private charter flight is booked at an extra cost, visits should be based on 3 nights or 4 nights or 7 nights.
Day 1: ARUSHA to MAHALE
Depart from the Arusha Airport at 08h00 on the shared charter flight to the Mahale Mountains National Park (the flight will make stops at other airstrips prior to arriving at your destination). Met on arrival by the representative from the Camp, and proceed to the jetty. The transfer between the airstrip and the camp is done by boat, a 90min relaxed trip. A light mid-afternoon snack is served on board. The arrival at Greystoke Mahale Camp is in the afternoon. All Inclusive accommodation at Greystoke Mahale.
Days 2 + 3: MAHALE
Depart after a delicious and relaxed breakfast for the Chimpanzee tracking experience. Along with the time spent watching the chimps as they play, groom and possibly even hunt (1hr), you should see other forest game as well as amazing birds, butterflies and plants. The length of the trek varies each day, but the return to the camp is usually in time for lunch, a nap or a swim out in the lake. All Inclusive accommodation at Greystoke Mahale.
Included during the stay at Greystoke Mahale: Full Board accommodation, selected drinks including soft drinks, coffee, tea, bottled water, juices, house wine, domestic beer and non-premium local spirits, and the following activities on a shared basis: one Chimpanzee Trek per person per full day, boat trips, deep-water swims* and snorkelling*, forest walks, walks to the waterfalls, village visits, laundry, and park fees. Fishing on the lake can be arranged (extra cost per fishing trip, and this activity needs to be pre-booked).* Swimming and snorkelling are not allowed at the beach. These activities are only done in the deeper areas of the crystal clear lake.
Day 4: MAHALE to ARUSHA
Breakfast at the camp. Transfer back to the airstrip for the return, scheduled flight to Arusha Airport (the flight will make stops at other airstrips prior to arriving at the Arusha Airport).

The flights to/from Kigoma are shared chartered flights, operating on Mondays and Thursdays only. Being a shared service, the flights may make stops at various other airstrips prior to arriving at Kigoma, and on the return, prior to arriving at Arusha Airport. The timings may vary by up to approx. 1hr. Flights are shared and usually in a Cessna Caravan.
Day 1: ARUSHA to KIGOMA
Depart from the Arusha Airport at 08h00 on the shared charter flight to Kigoma (the flight may make stops at other airstrips prior to arriving at Kigoma)*. Met on arrival at approximately 12h55 by the hotel representative, and proceed by road to the hotel. After lunch, depart for a guided tour of Kigoma, which includes a visit to Ujiji, the site where Henry Morton Stanley first met Dr. David Livingstone and uttered the immortal phrase, “Dr. Livingstone, I presume?” The rest of the day is at leisure. Full Board accommodation at Kigoma Hilltop Hotel.
Day 2: KIGOMA to GOMBE
Transfer after breakfast to the dock, for the boat trip transfer to the Gombe Stream National Park. The boat trip takes 40min-90min, depending on the weather and the lake’s conditions. On arrival, a short walk (±15min) takes you to the camp. Depart for the Chimpanzee tracking experience in the afternoon. Full Board accommodation at Gombe Forest Lodge.
Day 3: GOMBE
Depart after breakfast for the Chimpanzee tracking experience. The rest of the day is at leisure at the lodge. During the stay at Gombe Forest Lodge, the following activities on a shared basis: one Chimpanzee Trek per person per full day, deep-water swims* and snorkelling*, forest walks, walks to the waterfalls, laundry, and park fees. Fishing on the lake, and boat trips on the lake, can be arranged at an extra cost. *Swimming and snorkelling are only done in the deeper areas of the crystal clear lake.
Day 4: GOMBE to KIGOMA to ARUSHA
Breakfast at the lodge. Walk back to the dock for the boat transfer back to Kigoma. A packed lunch will be provided. Transfer back to the airstrip for the shared charter flight to Arusha Airport (the flight may make stops at other airstrips prior to arriving at Arusha). Depart at approximately 13h30 and arrive at Arusha Airport at approximately 17h30.
